Bio
Mughil is from India and currently a PhD candidate at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) within the GENIUS Doctoral Network, with a background in civil and geotechnical engineering. Mughil holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and later completed his MSc in Advanced Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Surrey in the UK, where he developed a strong interest in shallow geothermal energy and numerical modelling. His research focuses on energy geostructures, particularly energy micropiles for retrofitting existing buildings and supporting low-carbon heating and cooling. Before starting his PhD, Mughil worked as a geotechnical engineer in the UK, carrying out ground investigations. Outside research, Mughil enjoys hiking, spending time outdoors and trying to follow a more sustainable lifestyle.
The main objective is to investigate the conversion of micropile foundations into EGs to provide heating/cooling to existing buildings in dense urban areas.
Specific Objectives
Reviewing the various existing micropiles solutions available in the market.
Numerical study of selected micropile products by employing heat exchangers.
Laboratory-scale trials to investigate the thermal efficiency and thermo- mechanical performance.
Field scale study of selected micropile designs under varying thermal and structural loads.
